This is not the best of times for the People’s Democratic Party, as one of its Board of Trustees members, joins the ruling party just 24 hours after seven members of its National Working Committee (NWC) of the opposition, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) resigned.
Senator Joy Emordi on Wednesday officially defected to the All Progressives Congress, and has been formally received into the fold of the ruling party.
Emordi was received by the Chairman of APC’s Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), Governor Mai Mala Buni at a brief ceremony in Abuja.
This development was confirmed in a statement by the Director-General, Press, and Media Affairs to the Chairman, Malam Mamman Mohammed quoted Emordi as saying she was convinced the future of a prosperous and united Nigeria lies in the APC.
According to the statement, Emordi said the leadership of the ruling party was sincerely and genuinely committed to a united Nigeria with plans for the future generation.
“The APC-led federal government is working for the South East and this is attracting more PDP members into APC,” Emordi said.
Responding to the development, Buni hailed Emordi’s decision to contribute to the unity of the country.
“There is a need for us to join hands for the political stability and national unity of our dear country,” he said.
“The South East is a strong political bloc and very crucial to the unity of the country, this will no doubt add to national cohesion, ” he added.
