The twists and turns in Anambra State governorship election continued on Wednesday a High Court in Imo State declared Chukwuma Umeoji as the authentic candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance in the poll.
This has raised questions over the candidacy of Prof Charles Soludo, who recently obtained a similar court order to declare him as APGA’s candidate in the election.
The court in its ruling in Owerri subsequently ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to accord Umeoji such a recognition.
The order was made by Justice B. C. Iheka in his ruling on a suit filed by Chike Dike against the INEC, APGA, and Jude Okeke, a factional chairman of the party.
Soludo, a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, had emerged as the candidate of a faction of APGA in the state. This faction has Victor Oye as its chairman and is also the one recognized by governor Willie Obiano.
However, when INEC published a list of candidates for the polls, it missed out Soludo’s name but instead listed Umeoji as APGA’s flagbearer.
Soludo’s camp subsequently obtained a court order that recognized him as APGA’s authentic candidate for the November polls.
