A Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday ordered the Department of State Services (DSS) to produce on or before next Thursday, the 12 associates of the Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, aka Sunday Igboho arrested during a raid in his house on July 2.
The order was made by Justice Obirora Egwuatu, while ruling on an ex-parte application argued by Pelumi Olajengbesi, who is counsel to the 12 detainees.
Justice Egwuatu gave the order in respect of a suit for the enforcement of fundamental rights, marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/647/2, and filed by the detainees
According to Olajengbesi, the 12 associates of Igboho were arrested during a raide by the DSS on his house in the Soka area of Ibadan on July 2. Since then, they have been kept incommunicado, the lawyer told the court.
He gave the names of the detainees as: Abdullateef Ofeyagbe, Amuda Babatunde (alias Lady K), Tajudeen Erinoyen, Diekola Ademola, Abideen Shittu, Jamiu Noah, Ayobami Donald, Adelabe Usman, Oluwapelumi Kunle, Raji Kazeem, Taiwo Opeyemi, and Bamidele Sunday.
Ruling on the matter, Justice Ewuatu, ordered the DSS to produce the detainees in court on the next adjourned date to enable the court to inquire into the circumstances leading to their arrest and continued detention.
He also ordered the DSS to show cause why the 12 detainees should not be released on either conditional or unconditional bail.
In view of the urgency of the of the case, Justice Egwuatu ordered that further hearing be held during the court’s vacation.
