Sunday Igboho, the  leader of the campaign for Yoruba Nation, has  written a petition to the federal government protesting damage to his residence, cars and other property by state agents as a result of the attack on his residence on Thursday by agents of the Department of State Service.

Igboho stimated his losses at N500million and demanded same as reparation, according to a report by The Nation newspaper.

Igboho, in a letter through his counsel, Chief Yomi Alliyu (SAN), also sought a public apology for what he called violation of his fundamental rights during the invasion of his house and the institution of a probe of the action of the security officials that conducted the raid.

He equally implored all the Governors of Southwest States that “know the yearnings of their people and Igboho’s large followership to wade in before it becomes hydra headed security problems in all their domains.”

The Counsel alleged that those arrested in Igboho’s house were being tortured to incriminate him that guns and ammunition were recovered from his house.

“Sunday Igboho knew that he would be arrested one day hence retaining our services. He could not be that daft to keep incriminating articles in his house!

“Our client’s house is a 5- bedroom duplex with 5 chalets of 2 and 3 bedrooms. These were totally damaged with operatives allegedly arguing on whether to burn down the edifice as done to his former palatial house. The lady officer allegedly put her foot down against arson.”

Peter Afunaya, spokesman for the agency, who paraded the suspects at the national headquarters of the secret police, said the security team was engaged in a gun duel by nine men suspected to be Igboho’s guards.

Peter Afunaya, spokesman for the DSS, told journalists on Thursday that  “A team of joint security operatives raided the residence of Sunday Adeyemo at Soka in Ibadan. This was based on intelligence that he had stockpiled arms in the place”.

“On approach to his residence, the team came under heavy gun attack by nine men suspected to be Igboho’s guards. Six were armed with AK-47 guns and three others with pump-action rifles.

“In the course of the exchange, two of the armed men were gunned down, while the rest were subdued and arrested. Only one operative, who was shot by the assailants in his right hand, sustained injury. He has, however, received medical attention and is very stable.,” Afunanya said.

“The gun duel, which lasted an hour, offered Igboho the chance to escape. Sunday Adeyemo, aka Sunday Igboho, is now on the run.”
