In Imo State, the hotbed of the security crisis rocking Nigeria’s southeast region, gunmen on Sunday kidnapped two women, including a Reverend sister.
On the same day, another group in Ekiti State demanded a ransom of N30m for a farmer kidnapped on Friday.
In the Imo incidents, the gunmen were said blocked the reverend sister who was driving in a Dim na Nume, Isu in Nwangele Council Area of the state, and abducted her. They were said to have put her in their get-away car, while a member of the group drove her car behind them.
Gunmen also abducted a woman, identified as Mrs. Ikenna Onwusoroaka. The kidnappers were said to have invaded the church, St. Philip’s Anglican Church, Ohii Parish in Owerri West Local Government Area of the state at about 7:45am and whisked the woman away.
In the Ekitii incident, gunmen who kidnapped Alhaji Jimoh Olodan , a farmer in Iyemero Ekiti in Ikole Local Government Area of the state have demanded a ransom of N30 million ransom for his release.
Olodan, described as a successful farmer, was kidnapped on Friday night, when gunmen suspected to be herdsmen invaded Elegure farm settlement, which was few kilometres to Iyemero-Ekiti.
The abductors contacted his family on Sunday when they made their demand.
Nigeria is experiencing its worst peace-time insecurity. The West African country is fighting multiple scourges of kidnapping for ransom, insurgency, banditry and other violent crimes.
