…gets Buhari’s order to end insecurity
The Police Council on Friday confirmed the appointment of Alkali Usman Baba as the substantive Inspector General of Police for the country.
President Muhammad Buhari presided over the meeting, which took place at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Buhari the new IGP marching orders to ensure that insecurity in the country is reduced to the barest minimum.
Minister of Police Affairs, Alhaji Maigari Dingyadi, told journalists that Baba’s appointment as the IGP was unanimously confirmed by the Council members
President Buhari on April 6 appointed Alkali Usman Baba as acting Inspector General of Police.
Those who attended the meeting include the vice-President, Yemi Osinbajo, the Chairman of the Governors’ Forum and Governor of Ekiti, Dr. Kayode Fayemi and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Boss Mustapha.
Others in attendance were the Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari; Ministers of Police Affairs, Alhaji Maigari Dingyadi, Interior, Ra’uf Aregbesola, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Muhammed Bello, and the Chairman Police Service Commission, Musiliu Smith
The meeting would have held on Thursday 27th May, 2021, but had to be shifted following the death of the former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, who along with 10 other Senior Military Officers and Service Men, died in an air crash.
Nigeria is currently fighting several wars against insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, and separatist movements different parts of the country.
