President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Major General Farouk Yahaya as the new Chief of Army Staff, the Defence Forces announced Thursday.
Major General Yahaya is a replacement for Lt-Gen Ibrahim Attahiru, who died in a plane crash on May 21, 2021.
This was contained in a statement issued by Acting Director Defence Information, Brig-Gen Onyema Nwachukwu on Thursday.
Major- General Yahaya, before his appointment, was the General Officer Commanding 1 Division of the Nigerian Army and the incumbent Theatre Commander of the Counter-Terrorism Counter Insurgency military outfit in the North East, code-named Operation HADIN KAI.
This brings to an end the speculations that have been going on since Attahiru’s death, on who will replace him.
