Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Ibrahim Attahiru has died in an air crash along with some of his aides.
A military Beachcraft 350 aircraft conveying the Army Chief crashed at the Kaduna International Airport on Friday, claiming all eight souls onboard including Attahiru, the newly appointed Chief of Army Staff,
The aircraft crashed at the airport’s runway about 6 pm local time.
This was confirmed by the Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the Accident Investigation Bureau, Nigeria, Akin Olateru, who said that all the eight persons on board died.
“Beachcraft 350. 8 souls on board. Unfortunately, all dead,” Olateru wrote in a WhatsApp note.
Similarly, the Nigerian Air Force has confirmed that there was an accident involving one of its aircraft in Kaduna but did not provide details.
“An air crash involving a @NigAirForce aircraft occurred this evening near the Kaduna International Airport. The immediate cause of the crash is still being ascertained. More details to follow soon,” the NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Edward Gabkwet, said in a statement.
