Gunmen in the early hours of Monday kidnapped a female Professor in the Department of Medical Microbiology of the University of Jos, Grace Ayanbimpe, along with her husband.

The couple was abducted from their residence after the gunmen gained entrance into their house located behind Haske Quarters, Lamingo in Jos North Local Government Area of the state.

Jos is the capital of Plateau State, in Nigeria’s North Central Region.

The gunmen were said to have shot sporadically into the air at about 3 am, when they attacked, to scare the couple’s neighbours from interfering in the operation.

In Southeastern Abia State, another set of gunmen attacked a police station, setting it ablaze.

They were said to have attacked the Apumiri Ubakala Police Station in Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State at about 2 am Monday.

Unlike in similar attacks on police stations in the region recently, there were no deaths recorded in the attack, according to sources.

Femi Gbajabiamila, the Speaker of House of Representatives, said in Abuja Monday that given Nigeria is currently at war, given the level of kidnapping, banditry, and insurgency going on in the country.

Gbajabiamila said that for this reason, the government has to raise its funding for the country’s armed forces, noting that the regular budgetary allocations are no longer enough for their needs.
