The attack on the country home of Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State came a day after he asked security agencies in the country to published a list of politicians behind the rising incidence of banditry in Nigeria.

In the early hours of Saturday, gunmen invaded his house in his hometown, Omuma in Oru East local government area of the state. The attackers were said to have lobbed a petrol bomb into the expansive compound but failed to burn the houses. They only succeeded in setting ablaze vehicle parked on the compound.

They also killed a security officer on duty on the compound, and two others at Mgbidi Junction, one a police Sergeant and another NSCDC officer.

Uzodinma on Friday told journalists in Abuja after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari that the people responsible for the spate of attacks in Imo were funded by disgruntled politicians, pointing out that the time had come for the sponsors to be disclosed.

The governor said President Buhari had acceded to his requests for security to be beefed up in the state in response to the previous attacks.  He said that with the help of Close Circuit Television, it has been established that those who carried out the attacks on police and Prison facilities were not from Imo State.

“It is not only CCTV, but some of those arrested by security agents also are not from Imo State or the Southeast, it was a combination of those within the state and those from outside the state,” he said, adding that up to 50 suspects had been arrested.
