The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Tuesday arrested former Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha in Abuja over allegations of asset diversion made against him.

Recently, the commission alleged that the former governor misappropriated as much as N7.9 billion, being funds belonging to the state.

Mr Wilson Uwujaren, the Spokesman for the EFCC, confirmed Okorocha’s arrest by the commission but did not give details for the arrest.

He said Okorocha, who is a Senator, was arrested from his private office in the  Garki area of Abuja on Tuesday.

Okorocha has been engaged in running battles with the EFCC on the one hand, and also with Hope Uzodinma, the current governor of Imo.

The former governor has often alleged that his successor is using the commission to witch-hunt him.

In February, Imo State Police arrested him after the former governor allegedly unsealed Spring Palm Estate, which is alleged to belong to his wife, Nkechi.

While Okorocha was later released, a number of his supporters are still be tried in court.

Okorocha is expected to appear in court soon, sources say.
