President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday ordered security agencies to identify sponsors and leaders of kidnappers and bandits especially in the north and take them out.

President Buhari said his administration would not tolerate a situation where the criminal elements dictate the pace in the fight against insecurity and gave the marching orders to the security to bring such people and those backing them down.

Major-General Babagana Monguno (retd), the National Security Adviser, announced this to State House correspondents at the end of the security meeting presided over by President Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Buhari gave the order at a security meeting he held with the service chiefs ahead of is departure to the United Kingdom for a two-week medical holiday.

Monguno also quoted the President as saying that he would no longer tolerate a situation where criminals dictate the pace of security events in the country, and ordered the security chiefs must be proactive.

He added that President Buhari directed that all the decisions approved at the National Security Council meeting last month, including a ban on mining activities in Zamfara as well as the no-fly zone are still in force until further notice to curb the rising insecurity in the state.

Nigeria is currently experiencing its worst peace-time insecurity as kidnappers, bandits armed robbery operate openly on highways, farmlands, villages and towns. They kidnap people and cart them into forests and begin long negations with victims’ families for ransom.
