It was another kidnapping and bloodletting day on Monday as rampaging gunmen abducted at least 19 persons in Niger State and gunned down four farmers in Ogun State.

The kidnapping took place in Kutunku village in Wushishi local government area of Niger and involved eleven males and eight females including. Two of the females were would-be brides scheduled to marry this weekend.

In both cases, the gunmen were said to have motorcycles. In Ogun, the farmers were killed by gunmen numbering over 10 and ridding on motorcycles in Konkobudo village, Idiyan area, which is a border village located between Ibarapa North and Iwajowa Local Government Areas of Oyo State.

In the Niger village, they were said to have ridden on their bikes, shooting into the air, beaten the villagers, and carted away foodstuff and money.

The Ogun attack was said to have taken place at dawn, as the gunmen shot the farmers who were said to be sleeping on their farmland.

Iskilu Wakili, the lynchpin of the kidnapping and other violent crimes going on in communities in Ibarapa and Oke-Ogun areas of Oyo State, was arrested on Sunday.

He was arrested by a joint team of Ibarapa security operatives, including Oodua People’s Congress, Vigilante, and other groups in the area.

Wakili and his gang were allegedly involved in the killing and kidnapping of several people in Ibarapa, Oke Ogun, Oyo State.

Niger State on it part has witnessed a number of mass abductions by gunmen, including the kidnap of secondary school boys and their teachers from a government secondary school as well as over 19 travellers last month.
