Less than 24 hours after President Buhari said there would be no amnesty for bandits and kidnappers in the country, gunmen in the early hours of Friday abducted more than 300 schoolgirls from Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe in the Talata-Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Reports said the gunmen arrived at the school in trucks and motorbikes and forcefully took away over 300 of them.

Nigeria is currently experiencing a deluge of kidnapping from schools to the highways, the neighborhoods, farmlands, and even cities.

Late last year, bandits kidnapped about 300 schoolboys from Government Science Secondary School in Kankara, Katsina State.

Last week, gunmen invaded the government secondary school in Kagara, in Niger State, and took away 27 students and 15 workers. They are demanding N2.7m for the students’ release.

“The Government shall continue to deal with insurgents, bandits, kidnappers and other criminals who constitute a threat to innocent citizens across the country, President Buhari announced at a meeting of Northern governors in Kaduna.

“Criminals are criminals and should be dealt with accordingly, without resorting to ethnic profiling. I have already tasked the new Service Chiefs to devise new strategies that will end this ugly situation where the lives of our people continue to be threatened by hoodlums and criminals” he said.
