Unidentified gunmen have kidnapped eight children from an Abuja-based orphanage. They have also demanded a ransom of N100 million for the release of the victims, who were taken from an orphanage known as Rachel’s Home, located in the Abaji area of Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city.

Nigeria is currently experiencing its worst peace-time insecurity, with kidnappers prowling every part of the country and preying on citizens.

State governments, individuals, and organizations have the incessant kidnapping cases on Fulani herdsmen, who hide the thick forests of the southern parts of the county.

The kidnap of the orphans has attracted criticism in social media.

“To storm Abuja Orphanage and kidnap those innocent Children is one of the cruelest and inhumanly despicable things to do in this season of security paralysis,” Senator Shehu Sani,  a human rights activist, tweeted on Monday.

The gunmen were said to number about 25. They attacked the orphanage at about 1 am.
