The Lagos State government is prosecuting 20 police officers for various offences, governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced Friday.
“Today seems like a good day to get on to the work of rebuilding Lagos and ending police brutality,” the governor said in a tweet.
Identification and prosecution of police officers who committed human rights abuses were part of the demands by the protesters who have been calling for an end to police brutality.
“To show our commitment to the latter, here is a list of ongoing prosecution of police officers for offences related to the violation of human rights in Lagos,” Sanwo-Olu said.
The offences registered against the officers include manslaughter, attempted manslaughter, murder, and armed robbery
