Anonymous, an online network known for launching cyberattacks against government institutions, said it has hacked the websites of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The group declared in Tweet that “Official website of @officialEFCC has been taken down in support of #EndSARSProtest. CHECK HOST : https://check-host.net/check-report/df89d3bk838 TARGET : https://efccnigeria.org/efcc/ You should have expected us! #EndCorruptionInNigeria.”
It said the action was taken in solidarity with the #EndSARS protesters, who have been campaigning against police brutality in the country.
A visit to the EFCC site on Saturday received this message, long delay “Site can’t be reached”, while that of INEC opened.
Anonymous had previously attacked the website of the Central Bank of Nigeria on Friday night, which was taken down, but was later restored. However, a visit to the site on Saturday, a visitor would first be told that his browser was being checked before the site would open.
The group had also previously hacked the Twitter accounts of several government agencies, among them the National Broadcasting Commission.
It has also taken over the website of Nigeria’s National Industrial Court and also targeted the official website of Edo State Government.
On the Court’s website, the group wrote the hastags #OpNigeria #EndSARSProtest #EndSARS #EndSarsNow and #EndPoliceBrutality
