Indications emerged Sunday that despite conceding defeat, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the Edo election may be preparing to challenge the result of the poll.
The Independent National Electoral Commission on Sunday afternoon declared Governor Godwin Obaseki, candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, winner of the election that held on Saturday.
But despite conceding defeat, Ize-Iyamu reacted to the outcome of the election, saying that he was “studying the results along with other party members and will announce the next line of action soon”.
Ize-Iyamu in his verifiable Twitter handle said “I hereby thank and appreciate my teeming supporters, who have had to endure many evils including being prevented from exercising their franchise, for their support and determination during the election process.
“I assure you all that I am studying the results along with other party members and will announce the next line of action soon. God bless you all”, he said.
The result announced by INEC showed that Obaseki polled 307,955 votes, to beat Ize-Iyam, who got 223,619 votes
