Mr. Agboola Ajayi, the Ondo State Deputy governor and candidate of the Zenith Labour Party, who has held membership of three parties this year, on Sunday chose Mr. Gboye Adegbenro, a former Commissioner for Works, as his running mate for the October 10 gubernatorial election.
This has heightened the simmering war between governor Rotimi Akeredolu and Mimiko.
Adegbenro served as a commissioner in the administration of Olusegun Mimiko, immediate past governor of the state.
ZLP has submitted Adegbenro’s name to the Independent National Electoral Commission, to meet the deadline for filing the names for the contestants in the election, which is Tuesday.
Ajayi joined the ZLP last Friday after he resigned from the People’s Democratic Party. His membership of the PDP was less than two months. He had previously defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress following his disagreement with Akeredolu.
