Eyitayo Jegede, a former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Ondo State, on Wednesday, won the governorship primary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Jegede scored 888 votes to beat to the second place, Agboola Ajayi, the deputy governor, who had 657 votes.
Jegede will face governor Rotimi Akeredolu on October 10 at the gubernatorial election. Four years ago, he was PDP’s candidate but lost to Akeredolu.
Ajayi decamped from the ruling All Progressives Congress to join PDP last month, a move that pitted him against Akeredolu.
The results announced showed that PDP’s National Vice Chairman South West, Dr. Eddy Olafeso received 175 votes, while former Ondo PDP spokesman Banji Okunomo had 90 votes.
Other contestants were Ayorinde Olabode, who got 95 votes; Senator Kunlere Boluwaji, 33 votes, Ebiseni Sola, 29 votes, and Godday Erewa scored 14 votes.
