Nigeria’s presidency on Tuesday said that the removal of the country’s Service Chiefs is a prerogative of President Muhammadu Buhari, as they cannot be changed by any other authority.
Femi Adesina, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President said this in a post on his verified Twitter account, @FemAdesina
Adesina was reacting to a resolution earlier in the day by Nigerian Senators that ordered the Service Chiefs to resign following the increasing killing of the country’s soldiers by terrorists and bandits, and resignations from the Army.
“President Buhari notes the resolution of the Senate asking Service Chiefs to resign or be sacked. The Presidency reiterates that appointment or sack of Service Chiefs is a Presidential prerogative, and the Commander-in-Chief will do the best for the country at all times,” Adesina wrote.
