Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police was not aware of the siege that a team of Policemen laid on Thursday at Joy Numieh’s residence, Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike has said.

Nunieh is the immediate past acting managing director of the Niger Delta Commission.

“I called the Commissioner of Police, he said he was not aware. They said it’s the IGP Monitoring Team, but I have spoken to the authorities, they said the IG is not even aware,” the governor said

Wike rushed to Nunieh’s residence Thursday morning as report of the siege filtered into Port Harcourt.

Wike got to the place before the Police team succeeded in removing the protector in the house to enable them to arrest her.

He ordered the Police out of the place and took to the government house.

The attack on Nunieh came a few days after she accused Godswill Akpabio, minister of Niger Delta Affairs, which supervises the activities of the commission.

She made several allegations against the minister, including sexual molestation and fraud.

Nunieh said the team of policemen were preventing her from leaving for Abuja, where she was supposed to make presentations to a committee probing the affairs of the commission.

“This is definitely the handiwork of those who don’t want me to tell the truth about what is going on at the NDDC. My Governor, Wike, says they have tried to pressure him to retract his warning that I should not be harmed but he has refused,” Nunieh said.

“The minister (Akpabio) thinks he can intimidate me with police but I will not be intimidated. He is afraid that I have exposed the fact that there is no forensic audit going on at the NDDC.
