Godwin Obaseki, the Edo State governor and gubernatorial candidate of the opposition party for the upcoming election, has been issued with a new discharge certificate by the National Youth Service Corps, his aide has confirmed.
The new certificate bears the correct spelling of the governor’s surname, Crusoe Osagie, his aide on media and strategy, confirmed by phone from Benin City on Friday.
Obaseki was disqualified by the All Progressives Congress (APC) committee that screened its candidates for the state’s governorship election slated for September 19. One of the reasons cited by the committee was a discrepancy in the spelling of the governor’s name on the discharge certificate from the compulsory National Youth Service Corps for graduates.
On the old certificate, the issuing authority, NYSC, had spelt his surname as OBASEK, which the APC’s committee said was a significant irregularity
