The Lebanese who advertised a Nigerian woman for sale on Facebook, identified as Wael Jerro, has been arrested. The Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, stated this on her Twitter handle yesterday.

She noted that the suspect, who was arrested by the Lebanese government, would be prosecuted. “The Lebanese Government just announced the arrest of Mr. Wael Jerro for onward prosecution against criminal sales of a human, a young Nigerian girl,” she wrote.

Jerro had advertised the victim, Busari Peace, with her Nigerian passport on a Facebook page, ‘Buy and Sell in Lebanon.’ He put a price tag of $1,000 on the 30-year-old Ibadan, Oyo State, indigene. The incident generated outrage on social media, as many Nigerians called for the arrest of the suspect and rescue of Busari.

In another development, the FG has vowed to fight maltreatment of Nigerians in China. At the briefing of the Covid-19 task force in Abuja, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyema, said that the recent racial discrimination against Nigerians living in China was a red line and the Federal Government would fight it to the very end.

“We are extremely disappointed with the treatment meted out to our people because we have good relations with the government and people of China. When the outbreak in Wuhan started, we showed solidarity with China and went with the World Health Organisation (WHO) advisory not to place travel ban but Nigeria is disappointed and we are deeply wounded by what has happened to Nigerians and other Africans in China.

“We have been engaging the Chinese government at various levels, and have made a threat that Nigeria will under no circumstance accept the racial discrimination against Nigerians and Africans in China. Though they denied it we have seen videos and reports which are unacceptable, we are working together with other African countries to come up with definitive measures that will be taken,” Onyema said.
