The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster and Management, Sadiya Umar Farouq has denied her rumored planned marriage to President Muhammadu Buhari, dismissing it as fake news. Social media has been awash with claims that President Buhari will be getting married to Farouq because Mrs Buhari has been away for months. Mrs Buhari left the country early August to Saudi Arabia to perform hajj (Muslim pilgrimage) and returned to the country early Sunday morning.

Her absence provoked speculations in social and local news platforms also circulated the wedding, citing a close source at the Presidential Villa who disclosed that the marriage was due to take place on Friday, October 11, 2019. Several hashtags have been trending on Twitter on the premise of the wedding and the “sudden” return of Mrs Buhari to the country to stop the wedding. #TheWedding, #BUSA19, #AISHA, #Presidentialwedding amongst several others.

A former Special Assistant on Social Media to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri tweeted on Thursday night, saying that the rumor of the second wife is true, although the date of the marriage is not known yet.

“Apparently, the second wife story is true. What can’t be confirmed is the date of the wedding fatiha. This man shouldn’t tempt his Creator. He just recovered from serious ill health and now he wants to add another yarinya! Second Term, Second Wife! Baba o! #SecondTermSecondWife”

But the minister, who was on official assignment in New York when the rumors went viral, yesterday, stated on her twitter handle @sadiya_farouq that the news of her impending marriage trending on social media was fake, stating that it should be ignored.

She said in her tweet that: “There have been several speculation in media regarding marriage between myself and Baba Buhari. I will like to clarify this that me and Baba Buhari have been old time friends and Her Excellency Aisha is a good friend and a sister. I will like to maintain this good relationship.

“Dear Nigerians, please kindly ignore all rumours as this is not true. We are currently completely focused on making sure we have a better Nigeria. Let’s continue to pray for our dear country Nigeria. God bless.”
