Huhuonline.com understands that Brigadier General John Shagaya Rtd, a former Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria died in a lone auto crash, which occurred at about 14.45 hours on Langtang – Pankshin road, on his way to Jos.
Bisi Kazeem, spokesman of the Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC), made the disclosure in a statement on Sunday.
According to the statement the FRSC team from Langtang Unit Command were at the scene of the crash almost immediately after the crash.
Kazeem stated that senator Shagaya was travelling in a Toyota Land Cruiser Jeep with his driver and an orderly from Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
Kazeem noted “preliminary report indicates that the driver lost control and hit a tree making the General to sustain an head injury that eventually led to his death”.
However,the two injured aides of the diseased are currently in Pankshin General Hospital while the corpse of the late Shagaya has been deposited at the Air Force Hospital Mortuary in Jos.
FRSC Corps Marshal, Boboye Oyeyemi expressed his condolences to the family while appealing to other motorists to always avoid whatever could cause mishap on the highways
Similarly, President Buhari has also expressed condolence, saying, President Muhammadu Buhari is profoundly saddened to learn of the tragic accident that took the life of Senator John Shagaya.
President Buhari offers his heartfelt condolences to the Shagaya family, friends, the Government and people of Plateau State on the painful passing of their illustrious son.
The President pays tribute to the great Nigerian whose legacies will live on in the patriotic work he did as a military officer, who rose to the position of a General, and a distinguished Senator of the Federal Republic that ably represented the Plateau Southern zone.
The President affirms that at each step of his distinguished career in national service and politics, General Shagaya brought his deep convictions and discipline to national, regional and community assignments and was ready to always offer his best to the development and stability of the country.
President Buhari prays that God Almighty will comfort all who mourn him and grant his soul eternal rest.
In the same vein, General Babangida has expressed condolences, saying, “I received with great shock the sudden demise of one of the brilliant retired military officers, General John Shagaya this Sunday from a ghastly motor accident. Late General Shagaya until his death had been ardent supporter of unity of Nigeria as a nation and a peace builder irrespective of ethnicism, tribalism and religious bigotry.”
