The residence of Dr Ibe Kachikwu, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources in Asokoro, Abuja was on Sunday engulfed in fire.

It was gathered that the fire was put out by security personnel and some first responders who were on the ground at the time of the incident. It was also gathered that the fire was caused by an electrical fault in the minister’s room.

Eyewitnesses said that Kachikwu was not at home when the fire broke out.

“The minister’s residence located on the outskirts of Asokoro was gutted by fire which was caused by an electrical fault in a part of the building. He was not at home when this happened, but some mobile police officers and first responders were able to handle the situation,” an eyewitness said.

“The important thing is that it is not a serious incident, it only affected a part of the building and I think it was his room. And like I said earlier, it was due to an electrical problem in the apartment. There is a police post close to the estate and their presence there was also instrumental.”

Armed mobile security officers were notices along the road leading to the exquisite estate where the minister resides in Asokoro. The mobile policemen were saddled with the task of verifying any visitor to the house before they are allowed into the area.

This is coming only a few days after a petition Kachikwu wrote to President Muhammadu Buhari against the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Maikanti Baru, was leaked to the public.
