As Monday marking the another commemoration of annulment of June 12,1993 Presidential election, which was generally believed to be won by the business mogul, Late Bashorun MKO Abiola, a human rights activist and Executive Chairman, Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice(CHRSJ),Comrade Adeniyi,Alimi Sulaiman has urged President Muhammadu Buhari led-Federal Government to recognize the late winner of the election as former President of the country, maintaining that Late Abiola, his wife,Kudirat and other martyr laid down their lives for the enthronement of current democratic experiment in the land.
He also maintained that non-recognition of Chief Abiola since the enthronement of present democratic experience in May 29,1999, has been hurting the present political system, insiting that the only solution to the many political challenges currently facing the nation was to first give Chief Abiola the rightful place in the country political history and development, adding that national emolument like University of Abuja and Eagle Square should be named after the late winner of June 12,1993 Presidential election.
In a signed statement by Comrade Alimi Sulaiman, to commemorate the 2017 June 12 anniversary, which a copy was made available to newsmen on Sunday, stated that the annulment of June 12, 1993 Presidential election has been the watershed in the democratic development of the nation, saying that successful government had failed to do the needful
in giving due recognition to the June 12 election and its popular believed winner, forgetting that without June 12, there could not May 29 in the country.
Comrade Sulaiman urged the present administration of Buhari to make June 12 as one of national public holidays for the remembrance of the turning point election that was adjudged as freest and fairest election ever held in the political history of the land since independence in October 1st, 1960, commending the States of the federation that used to declare June 12 as public holiday in their various State for keeping the ideals and philosophy which the June 12 stand for in the evolution of political history of the country.
The rights activist, who participated in the struggle for the revalidation of June 12 that lead to the enthronement of current democracy in Nigeria, insisted that the June 12 should be recognized as democracy day and not May 29 as presently regarded, cursing those who conspired with General Ibarahim Badamosi Babangida to annul the June 12, that they would not know peace of life, noting that no political leader in the history of the country could match the sacrifice and democratic legacy left behind by the Chief MOK Abiola in the anal of democratic progress of the nation .
According to him; “The June 12 1993 President election annulled by the evil genius and former Head of Military Junta, General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, rtd, would continue to be remained the watershed in the anal of political history and development of the country because the winner of the election, Chief MKO Abiola and other martyr paid supreme sacrifice for the enthronement of current democratic experience by laying down their precious lives.
“It is a shame that some gullible elements in the country are still celebrating General Bababgida for selfish political interest. If we are in sane country, the likes of Babangida and his conspirators then should have been languishing in jail for the rest of their life by robbing the masses of the country of their political opinion. ”.
Sulaiman who doubles as Chairman, Civil Societies Coalition for the Emancipation of Osun State (CSCEOS) then saluted the courage of the likes of late Chief Gani Fawehinmi(SAN),late Pa Abraham Adesanya,
late Chief Bola Ige, late Kudirat Abiola, Professor Wole Soyinka,
Barrister Femi Falana, Senator Sheu Sanni and host of other heroes and heroines of June 12,1993 Presidential election revalidation struggle. He therefore prayed for the repose of Chief Abiola, his wife, Kudirat and other heroes and heroines who lost their lives during the strugle.
