The Chief of Army staff, Gen. Tukur Buratai, Tuesday, warned politicians to stop covertly inviting the military to takeover government in Nigeria.
His warning follows attempts by some eminent Nigerians to lure the military to intervene and seize power to ensure that power remains in the North, in the event of the demise of the incumbent President, who is critically ill and receiving treatment in London.
Gen. Buratai issued the warning in a statement released by the Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier Sani Usman.
“This is to inform the public that the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Nigerian Army, Lieutenant General TY Buratai, has received information that some individuals have been approaching some officers and soldiers for undisclosed political reasons,” he said in the statement.
He pointed out that on the basis of that, he has warned such persons to desist from these acts.
He added that Nigerian Army is a thorough professional, disciplined, loyal and apolitical institution that has clear Constitutional roles and responsibilities.”
Gen. Buratai advised all officers and soldiers interested in politics, to resign their commission or apply for voluntary discharge forthwith.
He warned that any officer or soldier of Nigerian Army found to be hobnobbing with such elements or engaged in unprofessional conducts such as politicking would have himself or herself to blame.
“The Nigerian Army will remain apolitical and respect the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” The COAS reiterated.
Huhuonline.com understands these eminent Nigerians, who are unsatisfied with the incumbent administration, have infiltrated the military, in their quest for political relevance.
Our check reveals that their action was responsible for last week’s redeployment of 147 senior officer.
Sources who confided in huhuonline.com revealed that these persons, (name withheld), but, mostly from the north are of the opinion that should the incumbent President (Mohammadu Buhari) die in office, the presidency will shift to the south, who may likely seek to rule for two terms. Which infers that South rule until 2027.
Against this backdrop, the group is determined to foreclose a power shift and their only option is a military intervention.
