Huhuonline.com understands that Boko Haram insurgents, Thursday morning, handed 21 out of the 276 missing Chibok schoolgirls to the Nigerian government, a source with direct knowledge of the release informed huhuonline.com.
The girls, whose names are not readily available, remain in Maiduguri, the source added.
Shehu Garba, Senior Special Assistant to the President – Media and Publicity, confirmed the release of the girls
“The 21 girls are currently in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).“They would soon be handed over to Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo by the DSS.”
“The release of the girls, in a limited number, is the outcome of negotiations between the administration and Boko Haram, brokered by the International Red Cross and the Swiss government. The negotiations will continue.”
Recall that the militants abducted the 276 girls out of bed at a school in Chibok in northern Nigeria in April 2014.
