President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki, has said that what Nigerians are concerned with at the moment, is not who brought the economic woes in the country, but how to get out of it.

He stated this on Tuesday as he presided over the first Senate plenary, after its long annual recess.

He said as he welcomed the senators from recess, “The economic challenges in Nigeria are biting hard”.

According to him, “people are not so interested in how we got here or who to blame for our current situation. They only wanted to know that government has plans to get them out of this current predicament.

“To them, the only explanation that makes sense at the moment is that which puts food on the table, reduces price of rice, garri, salt, sugar, meat and saves jobs”.

The Senate President therefore stated that the senators can no longer afford distractions since it has to focus more on how to help salvage the nation from the current economic recession it has plummeted into.

Saraki charged the executive arm to do the needful towards bringing the nation out of recession, as he also urged the lawmakers to be prepared for more serious legislative business.

The Senate adjourned to Wednesday when it will begin deliberations on the current economic recession.
