Nigeria’s main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has queried the claims made by the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, over improved receipts by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).

It would be recalled that the vice president had claimed that FIRS has achieved 73 per cent of its target revenue for the year 2016.

However, the PDP, in a tweet on its verified twitter handle, @PdpNigeria, faulted the claim, saying it remained unverified until FIRS publishes its data for 2016.

The party also queried why the service has refused to make its quarterly revenue data available as it was the practice under the last administration of President Goodluck Jonathan.

The party tweeted: “How do we verify @ProfOsinbajo’s statement of 73% target achievement rate if FIRS refuses to release data for 2016?”

“Why has the Federal Inland Revenue Service refused to release quarterly reports for 2016?”

The party also supported its query with screen shots of data releases of the FIRS under the Goodluck Jonathan administration.

It would also be recalled that the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, had claimed recently that the improve earnings of the three tiers of government at the last monthly allocation from the federation account was due to improve revenue collection by the FIRS.
