Protesters on Thursday took to over the streets of Ado Ekiti, calling on the state Governor, Ayodele Fayose to waives his immunity and answer defend himself in the corruption allegations levelled against him.

The protesters, comprising members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti, the Conference of Nigerian Political Parties(CNPP), youths, artisans and traders among others, demanded the prosecution of the governor.

They accused the governor of looting the state treasury, and accused 17 members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly of falsifying their certificates.

They called on the governor and lawmakers to submit themselves for prosecution.

Earlier, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)  had frozen the governor’s accounts with Zenith Bank. The agency had also tracked down  some of his associates after allegedly tracing N4.7bn from the Office of the National Security Adviser under Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.) to them and those of two sons of a former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro.

The protesters carried placards with various inscriptions including “Fayose is not above the law,” “Impunity is not immunity,” “EFCC, please probe Fayose’s account in Access Bank,” “Fayose bring back Ekiti money, Fayose must go,” “Immunity not a licence for criminality and impunity,” and “Fayose is destroying our image, we are honourable people.”

Policemen, officers of the Department of State Services and officers of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps were deployed in the state capital to forestall any breakdown of the law and order.

The protesters marched from Fajuyi park through Okeyinmi, stopping  at Ijigbo area to be addressed by leaders of each group.
