After a 10-day medical vacation and an additional two-day rest period, President Muhammadu Buhari has returned to Abuja.
The president who arrived on Sunday assured Nigerians that he’s now in top shape after his London trip where he received treatment for an ear infection.
“I’m ok. You can see me inspecting the guard of honour,” the 73-year-old told reporters as he touched down at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja.
Buhari, who was dressed in a brown kaftan with cap to match, said that he is fit to continue to perform his duties as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“You can see I am taller than you. Do you want to wrestle with me, you can do so,” he added in Hausa language.
Also speaking with journalists after the President’s arrival, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina said that the President would resume on Monday.
He restated his position that the President did not go on medical vacation but merely followed the advise of his medical specialists to seek further advise.
“The President is fit he is going to begin work in earnest,” Adesina stated.
Buhari left Nigeria on 6th June for tests on what the presidency described as a “persistent ear infection” that had forced him to pull out of a series of engagements.
According to the presidency, Buhari went to see an ear, nose and throat specialist in the British capital “purely as a precaution”.
Though the presidency had kept mum on the issue in the beginning, it was forced to issue an official statement regarding the health status of the president when the media because awash with speculations.
Ahead of the trip to London, he notably cancelled a planned visit to Lagos and missed a meeting of the West African regional bloc ECOWAS.
