President Muhammadu Buhari is ill and is being treated at the presidential villa, Huhuonline.com can report.

Source close to the presidency revealed that the president has an infection in his left ear, otherwise called Meniere Disease, a challenge which has drastically reduced his outings in the last one week.

The infection has resulted in a form of hearing impairment, causing severe pains and unusual sounds from that ear (tinnitus), reliable sources revealed.

Huhuonline.com can report that the three recent official trips within and outside the country cancelled by the president were cancelled because of the infection.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo represented Buhari at those events.

The vice president represented the Buhari in Papua New Guinea last weekend where the 8th Summit of the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States held.

Buhari was also represented by Osinbajo in Rivers State where he was billed to kick off the cleanup of Ogoni land as recommended by the United Nations Environmental Programme.

That came after a trip to Lagos was Al cancelled.

A statement by the presidency on Friday had also announced the cancellation of the President’s trip to Dakar, Senegal for the 48th Ordinary Summit of Head of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) holding this weekend.

The statement by Laolu Akande, the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the vice president, said Mr. Osinbajo would represent Buhari at the event.

The infection has lasted about two weeks now and only a few high profile individuals are privy to the president’s illness.

The president is currently being treated by his personal doctor and other experts from the State House Clinic, our sources said.

An official said the president might seek treatment abroad if his condition does not improve in the next few days.

The condition did not stop the president from attending the Juma’at prayers on Friday, our source said.

He has also been able to host important visitors, including former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan as well as some clergymen on Friday.

No official statement has been released in respect of the illness. Attempts to reach the President’s spokesmen were not successful.
