Justice Jide Falola, of the Osun State High Court has said in a ruling on Friday that Muslim female students in public primary and secondary schools in the state are free to wear hijab in their schools.
This he said following a case filed by the Osun State Muslim Community against the state government.
Hijab is the special veil, worn by Muslim females, which covers the head but reveals only the face.
Falola added that wearing of hijab was part of the fundamental rights of Muslims’ female pupils.
The police had deployed heavily armed policemen in the court premises as early as 7am in anticipation that there may be crisis after the judgment, but there was none.
