The United States of America has asked the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party to promptly call their members to order in Rivers State.
The call is in reference to electoral violence that accompanied Saturday’s re-run election in the state.
The US made the call through a statement issued by its Embassy in Nigeria.
The country said it was concerned about reports of violence, including the “possible targeting of electoral officials, and irregularities during re-run elections in Rivers State on March 19, 2016”.
The US condemned the use of violence and disruptions of the democratic process in the Rivers poll.
“We call upon the leadership of Nigeria’s political parties to urge their supporters to conduct themselves peacefully throughout the electoral process,” the Embassy said.
“We call on those dissatisfied to pursue a resolution of their grievances peacefully in accordance with the rule of law.”
