Seriously angered by the unbundling, Tuesday evening, of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) its workers, under the umbrella of Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria and the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, Wednesday shut down operations across the country.
As a result most filling stations were shut down.
Nigerians were beginning to heave a sigh of relief as some filling stations began selling petrol early this week until Wednesday morning.
The aggrieved workers said they would continue to reject the unbundling of the NNPC and force the government to rescind its decision.
The Minister of State for Petroleum and Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, had Tuesday evening announced the unbundling.
The minister said President Muhammadu Buhari had approved the unbundling and that five of the seven units would strictly focus on business to meet global best practices.
The new units were named as Upstream, Downstream, Gas and Power, Refineries, Ventures, Corporate Planning and Services and Finance and Accounts.
Each of them is to be headed by Chief Executive Officers who Kachikwu named as including Bello Rabiu (Upstream), Henry Ikem-Onih (downstream), Anibor Kragha (Refineries), Saudu Mohammed (Gas and Power), Babatunde Adeniran (Ventures), Isiaka Abdulrazaq (GMD Finance and Services) and Isa Inuwa (Executive Head, Corporate Services).
