A five-storey building which collapsed in the early hours of Tuesday in the Lekki area of Lagos, has resulted in the death of six persons while 15 other persons sustained various degrees of injury.

The rescue effort by agencies of government was still ongoing at the time of this report.

Three dead bodies were first recovered while the others were retrieved from the rubble of the collapsed building at the Lekki Garden Estate Horizon, Ikate Elegunshi later.

The building was said to have collapsed very early on Tuesday while the state witnessed heavy rainfall that lasted till daybreak.

It is still believed that many more people remain trapped in the collapsed building.

General Manager of the state Emergency Management Agency, Michael Akindele, confirmed the casualty figure adding that the building is five-storey structure under construction.

“We have on site LASEMA, Lagos State Fire Services, LASAMBUS, RRS, Civil Defence, Navy and the Nigeria Police,” he said.
