The internal squabble in the now opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has given rise to a new political party that plots to effectively tackle the ruling All Progressives Congress in the future elections.
Joined by a faction of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the party on Tuesday came up with the Peoples Mega Party (PMP).
Huhuonline.com learnt that while Chief John Agbara led the APGA faction to the meeting that held at the Sheraton Hotels, Abuja, Chief Perry Opara led the aggrieved PDP faction and emerged as the temporary chairman of the new party pending when the party would stabilise.
While speaking on the outcome of the meeting, Agbara said the decision to form a new party was reached after a wide consultation.
“We are today full members of the PMP,” he declared adding that the slogan of the new party is: ‘Forward Nigeria’.
In his own remark, Opara, who addressed supporters after the meeting, said the PMP emerged because of leadership tussle and challenges in the PDP and that these unfortunate issues had impacted negatively on the party and its future.
Opara said it does not mean that it is only people from the PDP that formed the new party. “We have APGA chairmen from many states of Nigeria identifying with the new party, people from Labour Party (LP) and the Accord Party (AP).
“There are also disenchanted people from the APC that feel that they want a new place and that is what it is. Today marks the birth of this new party,” Opara, a former aide to Alhaji Ahmed Gulak, former Political Adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan, said.
