The continued detention of the spokesperson of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olisa Metuh is due to his unwillingness to admit and return the more than N400 million he allegedly received from embattled former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has said.
Acting Chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, specified the condition after he was accused of witch-hunting leaders of the opposition PDP with the continued detention of Metuh and release of Jafaru Isa, an All Progressives Congress chieftain.
Isa had also been fingered as receiving part of the money, however, Magu claimed that Isa has begun the process of refunding the money in his possession, while Metuh had refused to do same.
“From the records, Metuh got over N400 million, but he has not said anything,” Magu said during a meeting with online media publishers in Lagos on Monday.
He added that Isa received N170 million from Dasuki, but he has owned up to collecting the money.
“He was with us for 4-5 days and then he made a deposit of N100 million and entered an undertaking to bring the rest. That does not mean we will not prosecute him,” Magu revealed.
“But this other Metuh, instead of going for a refund, he preferred to go on strike.”
Isa, a former military governor of Kaduna State, was arrested last Wednesday by EFCC operatives for allegedly receiving N170 million from the Dasuki. Metuh has been in EFCC custody since 5th January.
Magu is insisting that EFCC is not selective in its anti-corruption war, noting that only people involved in “some certain action or inaction of corruption” are being invited for questioning.
