The Save Nigeria Group (SNG) has warned that it will mobilise Nigerians for a torrential protest march, if President Muhammadu Buhari does not remove the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), Justice Danladi Umar, within the next 72 hours.
The group issued the warning at a press conference it held in Abuja on Monday.
SNG holds that Umar has questions to answer over an allegation that he demanded N10million bribe to quash criminal case involving a retired Deputy Comptroller of Customs, Mr. Rasheed A. Taiwo.
In a statement issued at the end of the press conference, National Coordinator of the group, Barrister Benedict Ezeagu, asked President Buhari to liaise with the leadership of the National Assembly to effect the formal removal of Umar as CCT chairman, in accordance with the constitutional provisions, without further delay.
“This will no doubt be a litmus test of President Buhari’s avowed anti-corruption stance,” Ezeagu said.
He added that the integrity of Nigeria’s judicial process and criminal justice system cannot be mortgaged on the whims of a few people with mischievous political interest.
