The Lagos State Government has appealed the judgement of a State High Court which on 23rd October 2015 declared that the appointment of Caretaker Committees to manage the affairs of Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas was illegal.
The court had given the state government 30 days to conduct elections into the 20 Local Government councils and the 37 Local Council Development Areas.
The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Adeniji Kazeem, in a statement on Tuesday said the government, not been satisfied with the verdict, has filed a Notice of Appeal and motion for Stay of Execution of the judgment before the Appeal Court in Lagos.
The Appeal Court has adjourned hearing of the application for Stay of Execution to the 18th November 2015.
Recall that Justice Abdulfatai Lawal, who presided over the case declared as illegal and unconstitutional the appointment of caretaker committees to run local government councils in Nigeria by state governments.
