Three students of the Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, who were kidnapped during a Christian fellowship programme on Wednesday have been rescued by men of the Nigerian Police Force, according to the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Emmanuel Ojukwu.
Ojukwu, who spoke in Lokoja on Friday while parading 24 suspects, said the students, Ayodele Ojo , Isaac Oaikhena and Sefiat Musa, spent three days with their abductors.
They were rescued from the kidnappers along Gadabiu-Kabba Junction Obajana Road after they had demanded for a ransom of N20 million.
The commissioner said the suspects were set up and asked to come and collect the ransom.
Ibrahim Jibo, one of the suspects was arrested on Thursday when he came to collect the ransom. He is now giving the police useful information.
Ayodele Ojo, one of the rescued victims said they were kidnapped during a fellowship prayer at about 7.30 p.m. at the Osara campus of the institution by the kidnappers, who appeared from nowhere and collected their mobile phones, money and other valuables and later abducted three of them.
He confirmed that the abductors demanded a ransom of N20 million ransom from their parents for their release and that they were maltreated when their demand was not met by the victims’ families.
Some of the paraded suspects were said to have been arrested for armed robbery, illegal gun manufacturing and political thuggery at Ejule Ofu Local government area of the state.
Some of the items recovered by the police from the suspects paraded included six guns, including AK47 rifles, locally made guns, bullet proof vests, charms, ammunition, Indian hemp and a Ford Galaxy bus with registration number Oyo AH 5095 HK.
