There was pandemonium in Ojuelegba, one of the urban areas of Lagos State on Wednesday evening when a container-laden trailer fell off the flyover bridge in the area crushing several residents as well as vehicles.
The driver of the trailer was said to have lost control of the vehicle before it landed with its load on the people who innocently went about their daily activities.
Witnesses said the incident occurred during the evening rush hour when residents were heading home from places of work and business.
“I was standing close to the bus stop and waiting to get a bus to my house when we heard this thunderous sound.
“We all scampered in different directions but the trailer and the container had landed on a car and an SUV and some people,” Tosin Kunle, a resident of Surulere area of the state, said.
The crowd that later thronged to the scene created serious obstacle for rescue operations.
The state government had recently expressed concern over the spate of accidents caused by articulated vehicles in the state.
The state Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, also recently held a meeting with truck and tanker drivers while the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) is also enforcing speed limit for the drivers.
