Kignsley Kuku, former aide to Goodluck Jonathan, former president of Nigeria has successfully undergone his surgery, a hospital in Birmingham, Alabama, United States of America has confirmed.
Kuku who presided over Jonathan’ s Amnesty program for the Niger Delta militants, is now resting at a rehabilitation center where nurses would commence therapy on him, the hospital where he was treated further confirmed.
One Ms. Christina, who is in charge of surgery scheduling made the confirmation on Friday, saying the surgery was done between 10 and 10: 30 am, American time(Nigerian time, 5:50pm).
” Yes, Mr. Kuku’ s surgery was successful and he has gone to rest for a few days before we commence therapy on him,” Christina told our correspondent on the telephone.
“Doctors say it would take Kuku four to five weeks before he gets better.”
The operation was done by Dr. Jeffery Dugas, according to the hospital senior staff.
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) had invited Kuku to answer allegations on conspiracy, stealing, abuse of office and diversion of public funds.
The EFCC letter with ref: CR 3000/EFCC/ABJ/EG/T7/vol.25/263 and dated 22nd July, was signed by the Head of Economic Governance, Olufunke Adetayo Ogunbode and was sent and received by the Presidential Amnesty Office in Maitama same day.
In his response to the letter, Kuku said he is currently in the US undergoing a surgery operation on his knee, and that he would answer the invitation in September when he recuperates.
Kuku had commended President Muhammadu Buhari for appointing Paul T. Boroh (rtd.) as the Coordinator of the Amnesty Programme for former Niger Delta militants.
