A stop and search operation embarked upon by the Police in Abia State has yielded result, as it has helped rescue an abducted victim.

The Police said the victim, a man, was rescued in Imo State tied in the booth of a car while officers of the Force carried out a stop and search operation.

 

A police statement revealed that officers of the Force received information from a citizen “who sighted a man (names withheld) being forced into the booth of a car somewhere around Ubakala. Police operatives were immediately dispatched to the scene.

 

“The said car was seen on the road and trailed to a Police stop and search point at Obowo, Imo State where it was intercepted.

 

“Upon a search of the car, the male victim was found in the booth with his hands tied to his back, he was immediately set free and his abductors arrested and taken into custody. State CIID Umuahia is investigating.”

 

In a related development, the Police said it foiled a robbery attack on the Makurdi-Duduguru road in Nasarawa State as its men intercepted the robbery syndicate who had blocked the road in preparation to commence operation.

 

“On 19th July, 2015 at about 12:05am, during the heavy rain storm Police Safer Highways Patrol team along Makurdi-Duduguru road intercepted a suspected armed robbery syndicate who placed barricade on the said road in an attempted to rob innocent traveller.

 

“A shootout ensued between the Police and the criminal gang during which one of the suspect (a male yet to be identified) was apprehended having sustaining gunshot injury, other gang members fled into the bush with bullet wounds.

 

“One locally-made riffle with live and expended ammunition and machetes were recovered from the suspect.

 

“The road was cleared of the barricades and made safe for traveller.

 

Injured suspect was rushed to the hospital for medical attention but Doctors pronounced him dead on arrival, corpse deposited at the mortuary. State CIID Lafia is investigating,” the statement read.

 

Also, the Police announced the recovery of over 1,000 livestocks including cattle and goats in Kaduna State.

 

According to the Police, “on 19th July, 2015 Joint team of Police Anti-Cattle Rustling Squad, Military and DSS raided a criminal hideout in Birnin Gwari where 1,000 stolen livestock. made up of cows and goats were recovered. Efforts to rout-out cattle rustlers in the area are being intensified. State CID Kaduna is investigating.
