Unknown gunmen on Tuesday night assassinated Dr. Deji Adejobi, a lecturer at the Department of Agricultural Economics of the Obafemi Awolowo University and elder brother of the Police Public Relations Officer for Ogun State, Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, in his house in Ile Ife.
The assassins allegedly drove behind their victim in a black car at about 10pm while the victim was arriving his house.
Attempts by the security guard at the gate to stop them failed as the gunmen shot into the air to scare neighbours.
They thereafter splited, some entering the lecturer’s apartment while others stood with their victims.
It was learnt that the lecturer was shot twice leading to his death.
“We finished our evening prayer at 10:05pm when dad drove into the compound. Then I overheard an argument between the gateman and some people.
“I quickly looked from the window and I saw another black car that entered our compound together with dad’s car. Our gateman was quizzing the occupants of the other car but they hit him and ordered him to lie down.
“The men in the black car stepped out of their car before dad could alight from his and one of them shot into the air. Two of them moved into dad’s car while others came inside the house,” Oyin, one of the lecturer’s children, told journalists, adding that the attackers took the Adejobi’s car away.
“We thought they took him away and we were praying for his safety without knowing that he had been killed,” Oyin added.
The police officers who visited the house after the incident found the lecturer’s corpse where it lay.
