Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, on Sunday appealed for prayers from members of the Living Faith Church, also known as Winners Chapel, Goshen City, Karu Nasarawa State, where he worshipped and had a thanksgiving after his election to head the House of Representatives.

Dogara, who beat Femi Gbajabiamila to emerge as Speaker last week, said his emergence was divinely ordained.

The Speaker, who had been a member of the church for 27 years, said he was manifesting all that he had learnt from the church over the years adding that the church had added to his victory.

Dogara noted that the country also needed prayers because the present government came into existence at a crisis-ridden period when the economy is in bad shape and governments across the world are collapsing and evil men are taking over leadership.

Dogara said: “I have been a member of this church since 1988 even before I went to the University. The teachings I receive here have defined my life.

“If it were not for the teachings we receive on this altar, maybe this victory may not have come.

“We had Goliaths in the run up to the election; there were Tobias and Sambalats. We had Balams who were asked to curse us but God is with us.

“It was Machiavelli who said you should not conquer territories you cannot keep. We have to keep this through prayers.

“We plead for your prayers because we must confront these challenges. As leaders we are responsible for what we allow. We need your prayers.”

Bishop David Abioye in charge of the church in the state, called Dogara a righteous man who the people would rejoice with.

He said the members of the House have been sharing testimonies of the Speaker’s good works.

He prayed that God would sustain Dogara and keep him strong.
