Chief Tony Anenih, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, has resigned.

Anenih in the resignation letter, late Wednesday, said his action is hinged on the current state of affairs within the party.

There had been reports that President Goodluck Jonathan had asked him to resign.

The letter titled: ‘Notice of my decision to step down as Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party’, dated 20th May 2015 and addressed to Jonathan was handed over to the President in Abuja.

His resignation came few hours after Adamu Mu’azu resigned as the National Chairman of the PDP. Mu’azu said he was resigning on health ground.

Meanwhile, shortly after taking over as the acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Uche Secondus, escorted by Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State, had a closed-door meeting with Jonathan.

Before the meeting began at 5.20pm, Secondus acknowledged cheers from those around Aso Rock Villa who congratulated him.
